History
Skils'kin was founded in 1970, under the name of Pre-Vocational Training Center (PVTC), by the parents of a child with Downs Syndrome who were dissatisfied with the services available for their loved one.
Now, 35 years later, we are still managed by an all-volunteer board of directors that includes: - community leaders
- members with disabilities
- and parents and legal guardians or people with disabilities.
Skil'skin's mission is to provide effective services and supports to people with disabilities or other disadvantages. It is our belief that each person, regardless of his or her abilities, is an individual capable of growing, learning, developing, and changing; that the services and supports we offer should be designed to maximize this portential and to increase independence and full inclusion into the community, as well.
