Community Living Services FAQs
What is Community Living Services (CLS)?
We are a supported living service provider. This means we support adults with developmental disabilities in living within the community. We provide 24 hour staffing to create the level of supports necessary for a participant of the program to live a quality life.
SKILS’KIN employs experienced staff to assist in a wide variety of daily needs, including hygiene care, medication assistance, medical appointments, community activities, and social skills building.
SKILS’KIN staff focus on ensuring the health and safety of the individuals we support, while empowering their choices and teaching independence skills.
Who is served by CLS?
Adults (over the age of 18) with developmental disabilities covered under the waiver program through the Division of Developmental Disabilities. SKILS’KIN is paid by the Division of Developmental Disabilities to provide services; there is no direct cost to the participant. If you are not sure of your eligibility, please contact your local Case Resource Manager.
SKILS’KIN supports a wide variety of individuals regardless of age, race, gender, religious belief, medical needs, or behavioral support needs.
If I am a participant of CLS, where and how will I live?
Participants of the CLS program rent houses in the community in which they live. Most often participants share a home with one to three housemates; however, each person has their own bedroom. Each participant pays their own rent, and owns their personal belongings (such as furniture).
Participants live in a manner of their choosing. From wall color, to furniture, to types of activities, SKILS’KIN encourages choice and individuality.
What makes SKILS’KIN different from other agencies?
We pride ourselves on focusing on the individuality of each participant in our program. We understand that each person has unique needs and desires, and we work hard to ensure their environment and lifestyle support their unique needs. When visiting the homes of those we support, you will notice that they are truly homes, not just houses. Individuals have the freedom to choose paint colors in their rooms, decorate with items they enjoy, and have control over their environment.
SKILS’KIN also offers medically intensive supports to those who have a higher medical need. We advocate for their well-being and work with their support teams to ensure they have the best possible medical supports. Many of our homes are wheelchair accessible with large rooms, no hallways and extra large bathrooms for easy accessibility.
